This file type (of the .mobi extension ) comes under the head of an eBook format. The main software which these files are associated is the Mobipocket program which is a company of the Amazon.com Inc. since April 2005. This is actually a binary form of the format which is primarily used for the distribution purpose of the eBooks to different users via the internet. The files which are saved in the KF-8 version of Amazon are also saved and distributed as the .mobi format.

Open MOBI File on Windows OS

  • Look for an MOBI file you need to open in Windows Explorer and double-click on it
  • If the file doesn’t open automatically and you see a “Windows can’t open a file” message then you should search for a program which can open MOBI file
  • If you have a program which can open MOBI file installed on your computer then launch that program and select “File” and then “Open” or similar options from its menu to open the MOBI file
  • If you don’t have the program installed then you need to try searching for “MOBI wiki”, “how to open MOBI file” in the search engine.
  • Once you find the application, install it on your computer
  • After the program is installed double-click on the MOBI file to open it
