An EDB file extension is a database created by Microsoft Exchange Server.
Microsoft Exchange Server is a mail server and calendar server developed
by Microsoft. Runs exclusively on Windows Server operating systems.
In other words, the EDB file serves as the primary repository for
Exchange-saved mailbox data.
On the other hand, the EDB file stores both in-process and stored
non-SMTP messages, since it is formatted using a b-tree structure, which
includes a top-level node and many child nodes.
The EDB files used for the Exchange information store are identified as
PRIV1 and PUB1, and eventually each of them has a corresponding STM file
that contains SMTP messages.
